First time Aerial Yoga: What to expect

Nervous about your first aerial yoga class? Take a breath — you’re in the right place, and we’ve got you covered! 🌿

First of all, welcome. Trying something new takes courage, and we want your first class to feel warm, safe, and genuinely enjoyable — not intimidating. Here’s everything you need to know before you walk through our studio doors.

What to Wear

Wear comfortable, fitted activewear that covers your armpits and knees. The fabric of the hammock can chafe against exposed skin, so fitted clothing helps protect you while you move. Avoid loose clothing, zippers, or jewellery that might catch on the fabric.

What to Bring

✦ A water bottle — movement is thirsty work!

✦ Grip socks or bare feet (no shoes on the mat area)

✦ An open mind and a sense of fun

Before Your Class

We recommend not eating a heavy meal within 1-2 hours before class. Inversions and movement feel much better on a settled stomach! A light snack is absolutely fine.

What Your First Class Will Look Like

Your instructor will begin with a warm introduction to the hammock — how to hold it, how to trust it, and how to use it as a support. From there, you’ll move through gentle poses and basic movements at your own pace. Nobody is expected to do anything challenging on day one.

You Don’t Need To:

✦ Be flexible or strong — the hammock does the supporting

✦ Master every movement or inversion — your first class is about exploration

✦ Compare yourself to others — everyone’s journey is uniquely their own

✦ Worry about falling — the hammock is designed to hold your full body weight

After Your First Class

Most students leave their first aerial yoga class feeling lighter, taller, and surprisingly calm. You may feel some new muscles waking up — that’s completely normal and usually settles within a day or two.

We can’t wait to have you. See you on the mat (and in the air!) 💜
