Do I need to be flexible to start aerial yoga?
The short answer? Absolutely not — and you’d be surprised how many of our students felt the same way before their very first class!
One of the biggest myths about aerial yoga is that you need to already be flexible to enjoy it. The truth is, flexibility is something you build through practice — not something you need to bring with you on day one.
Think about it this way: the hammock is your best friend. It gently supports your body weight, helping you ease into stretches and movements that might feel challenging on a mat. Many students actually find that aerial yoga makes flexibility work feel easier and more enjoyable than traditional floor-based yoga.
What You Can Expect as a Beginner
When you join one of our beginner aerial yoga classes at Yogi Bear Yoga, you’ll be guided step by step through movements that build:
✦ Strength — especially in your core and upper body
✦ Mobility — freeing up stiff joints and tight muscles
✦ Body awareness — learning to move with confidence and intention
✦ Flexibility — which grows naturally over time
We keep our classes small and supportive, so every student gets the attention and encouragement they need. There’s no competition, no judgment — just your own journey at your own pace.
So if you’ve been holding off on trying aerial yoga because you think you’re “not flexible enough,” we warmly invite you to let that thought go. Come exactly as you are. Your hammock is waiting. 💜
