Is aerial yoga safe? Will I fall?
Short answer: Yes — aerial yoga is safe, and falling is not something you need to worry about!
We understand this is often the very first question new students ask, and it’s a great one. Let’s put your mind completely at ease.
The Hammock Is Designed to Hold You
The silk-like aerial yoga hammock is engineered to hold the full weight of a person. In fact, aerial hammocks are rated to support hundreds of kilograms — far more than any human body weight. The fabric is strong, durable, and specifically tested for aerial movement and inversions.
When you’re in the hammock, you’re supported. Full stop.
All Movements Are Taught Step by Step
At Yogi Bear Yoga, we never rush students into movements they’re not ready for. Every class follows a structured, gradual approach:
✦ We start with the basics — how to sit, stand, and trust the hammock
✦ We build up slowly — adding complexity only when you feel comfortable
✦ We always offer modifications — every move has a gentler version
✦ Your instructor guides you through every single step
What About Inversions?
Inversions (going upside down) are introduced gently and never forced. Many students are surprised at how safe and supported they feel in the hammock compared to traditional mat inversions. Because the hammock distributes your weight evenly, there’s no pressure on your neck or spine.
That said, if inversions aren’t for you — that is 100% okay. Our classes are designed so that you can fully participate and have a meaningful experience while staying upright.
